free domain hosting?

From: Brian (riversol@yahoo.com) | Date: 2004-01-13 21:45:02 UTC
I was thinking of moving my Clues onto a webpage. Does anyone know
of anyone who offers decent free domain hosting?

Virtualave.net just shut down their freeservice. There seem to be
plenty of free subdomains hosting services out there, but I can't
find one for domain hosting without a loophole.

Alternatively, I could set up my own server. Can anyone recommend
simple, inexpensive web hosting software?

Thanks.

Riversol.

Try Netfirms.com -- their basic personal plan is free (with an ad banner at
the top), and is probably fine for a regular HTML-based site (they do cap
CGI usage on the free plan).

For more info on the free hosting plan:

I think that simple web hosting software might be an oxymoron.
However, if you're a little bit adventurous, you can try apache's
server software. It is the most popular web server software out
there, and the price is right: it's free.

You can check it out at http://httpd.apache.org/

Good Luck!
